We are well into a Northwest winter and wet, moldy seed is a problem for many of us. So, here are a few tips to help you get through our wet weather.
Try a different seed. Any seed still in it's hull will last longer then a seed without a hull.
Monitor your feeders and put out only enough seed to last for a day or two.
Cover your feeder. We have a number of domes and squirrel baffles that can offer a bit of protection from the weather
Try a quality hopper feeder with a mesh bottom. The mesh offers better drainage and can help seed to last longer.
Try Feeder Fresh. It is a non-toxic silica based product that traps moisture. Add a little to your feeder and it will act as a moisture trap and seed preservative.
Consider buying an All Weather Feeder. The AWF holds four quarts of seed and does a fantastic job of keeping the seed dry.
