This camera from Nova Bird is a pretty cool product. I have had a chance to try it out for a couple of days and can see where it will be a lot of fun. An educater friend of mine is also thinking about how he can use it in his biology lessons. Basically, this is a pretty simple 3 megapixel digital camera tht is sealed in a weather-resistant cover. The shutter is motion activated and the whole thing has a light sensor so it will turn off after dark. There is also a delay switch that allows you to set the shutter interval from 10 seconds to 30 minutes. What this means is that the camera will take a photo and then go into a standby mode for the selected delay interval. Once the interval time passes the camera is then ready to capture the next image. I learned first hand how important this setting is. I placed the camera to take photos of our Bird Quest Super Spiral feeder and set the delay for 10 seconds. After work I went home and checked the camera to see if it had taken any interesting shots. Apparently, the Pine Siskins spent a lot of time eating that day. The LCD readout said that the camera had captured 921 images! The shutter activated every 10 seconds as long as there was any sort of activity at the feeder. Next time, I'll know to set the camera to a longer delay.
Anyway, here are a few of the photos we took over the weekend. I am going to continue to play with the camera and will let you know how it goes. Come on in if you are interested in one of these cameras. I probably won't keep them in stock but can order one at any time. It takes about four business days to receive an item from my vendor. Or, if you just want to give one a try, give me a call and we can talk about a rental.
