The Chickadee House Kit is a fun and easy kit to build for the bird lover of any age.  Although the kit says age 8 & up, I was able to let my 5 year old help with the assembly without any problems.  The instructions are straightforward and easy to understand.  In addition to the tools listed on the back of the box (hammer, Phillips screwdriver, pencil, and ruler), I found it useful to use a vise and a wood clamp as well.  The vise helped to firmly secure each side as I hammered the nails in through the back piece.  Without the vise, I found it pretty clumsy to try to balance the pieces, keep them square, and hammer at the same time.  Once the two sides were on, it was pretty smooth sailing until the front piece had to be nailed on.  The two pieces of wood for the sides were pretty warped when I took them out of the box.  I had to use a wood clamp to bring the two side pieces together for a good fit with the bottom and front pieces.  The only other issue I had was screwing the Phillips screw into the front piece on Step 4.  I recommend using a drill to make a starter hole - I split the wood on the front piece without it.  Total assembly time was only about 15 minutes!  This was a great kit and is already hung up outside waiting for tenants this spring!
