A while ago I noted that our Snohomish County correspondent reported that Party Mix (C and S Wild Bird Specialty Products) is the suet favored by his woodpeckers. Jon recently tested his theory by running a head-to-head competition between Party Mix and a high-end (and high priced!) suet cake from another manufacturer. A cake of each was placed in a large suet feeder so there were no issues with access or location. According to Jon, the Mukilteo woodpeckers barely touched the more expensive suet until the Party Mix was completely gone.
