Nov 9, 2007
About 7:45am to 8:45am
Temp about 50F
Partly Cloudy and very Windy

I knew it was windy even before I got out of bed.  We had left the window cracked and I could hear the wind banging our blinds around.  I thought about sleeping for another hour but decided to get up anyway.  It would be good to see how the birds of Fish Park react to a strong wind.  I figured it was just another piece of the puzzle; another lesson I needed to learn in order to really understand the birds and how they live in this little corner of Poulsbo.

I left home a little earlier this morning in order to get a full hour of birding in before meeting my father for coffee at Central Market.  I wasn't too far from the truck before I thought "man, I should have brought my gloves".  It was actually a really nice morning but the wind was sucking the heat right out of me.  I could hear a few birds but wasn't seeing any activity on the ground or in the trees.  However, I did see a couple Great Blue Herons and a Bald Eagle fly overhead.

I made my way down to the corner of the park that has always held birds.  This morning... nothing!  I could hear them but the strong gusty winds were keeping them down in the bushes.  I walked down to one of the viewing platforms over the creek and saw a few Mallards and a Cormorant.  I then moved down to the next platform and then on to the truck.  Even with a full hour, and a fairly slow day, I ran out of time and had to hurry in order to get to Central on time.

Here are my lists for Nov. 9, 2007...

Seen:
   24 American Crows
   3   Great Blue Herons
   1   Double-crested Cormorant
   10 Mallards
   30 Green-winged Teal

   1   Dark-eyed Junco
   1   Spotted Towhee
   1   Bald Eagle
A few salmon swimming in the creek

Heard:
   Northern Flicker
   Black-capped Chickadee
   Several Frogs
