A new section of trail is shown in the lower part of this photo.

Another new bit of trail at Poulsbo's Fish Park.

I stopped by Fish Park again this morning but did not see many birds.  The temperature was in the high 20s so I imagine that had something to do with it.  I could hear them in the trees but only saw a few.  Still, it was nice to walk through on a rare sunny January morning.

There are work parties on the third Sunday of every month.  I was free yesterday afternoon so I joined the group and helped build trails.  The photos above show the new trail sections we put in.  There were quite a few volunteers this time so the work was spread out among a lot of people.  It makes for a nice way to give a little back to Poulsbo while helping to build what is turning out to be a great park.

The Wild Bird is donating a "rocket box" style bat house to the park.  Yesterday we discussed where would be the best place to locate it.  We decided on the spot shown in the next two photos.  The box will get a lot of direct sun (a must here in the Pacific NW) and is located near the ponds which should provide a source of tasty insects.  With luck we'll get the box up soon.  It would be very cool to have our own colony of bats right in the middle of the park.

The rocket box will most likely be located in the center of this photo.  It will be just to the right of the stump.

Here is another view of the rocket box site from the opposite side of the pond.  It would be a bit left of the snag in the center of the frame.

As I've mentioned many times, I really love this park.  I think it is amazing to have a little bit of nature right in town.  I am excited to see how the park itself progresses and to watch it change from season to season.  Since it is important to me, I want to remind everyone that it comes with a specific set of rules.  This is not your usual park where you can let the kids run all over the place and where it is okay to let the dogs off-leash.  There are some fragile habitats here and children or pets running off the trails can cause considerable damage.  I also don't like the idea of a dog chasing any of the local rabbits or scaring birds off their nests.  So please, respect the park and do follow the posted rules.  It really will be best for everyone and every thing.  Thank you!
