There are some really hard-core birders out there. They chase every rare or unusual bird sighting and must have the highest of high-end binoculars and spotting scopes. If you have the means and the desire, it is fairly easy to spend close to $2000 on a pair of binos. While I'm sure there are many people who can, or think they can, notice the difference, I don't think most of us need to spend that kind of money for our birding optics.
When I first started buying optics for the shop I assumed I would have some of those higher end shoppers come into the store. So far, it really hasn't happened much. When I finally sat down and thought about it, I realized that most of my customers are just like me. They want a decent pair of binoculars but are looking for a good value. They don't want to spend extra money just to have a certain brand name on their gear. So, with that in mind, I have re-stocked our optics section with a great selection of binoculars and spotting scopes that give great value at an unbeatable price.
I am bringing in binoculars from Vortex, Stokes Birding Series and Audubon. These are all really nice products and each comes with a great warranty. Our compact glasses will start at $69.99, mid-size 8.5x32 price at $139.99 and our full-sized binos begin at $139.99. We will also carry spotting scopes, tripods, chest harnesses and cleaning kits.
The binoculars shown below would be particularly good for backyard birding or as a spare pair to keep in the car. The Diamondback and Talon are great bargains at $199.99 for the 8x42 models or $209.99 for the 10x42. If an 8x42 is too large then you might want to consider the Spitfire. It is a full-feature binocular but the smaller size (8.5x32) can make it easier for some people to use.
All three come with a complete warranty. They will be repaired or replaced if they ever fail. Even if you are not the original owner. To me, that shows that the manufacturer is really confident in the quality of their product. Nancy and I both use Stokes Birding Series binoculars and are really happy with them.
So, come on down to The Wild Bird when you are ready to buy your first pair of binoculars or are thinking of upgrading. You can demo anything we have in stock. Plus, we can order in any Vortex, Stokes or Audubon optic if the one you are interested in is one we don't normally carry.
Finally, for at least the next few months, you will receive a free chest harness or lens cleaning kit (your choice) with every optics purchase of $199.99 or more.
