About 21F
Clear and COLD!

I realize that there are many places in the nation today where a 20F day would be a welcome warming trend.  However, here in the Puget Sound region, that same 20F makes for a very frigid start to the day.  I expected most of the birds to be puffed-up, hunkered down and waiting for the sun to get a little higher.  It was a pleasant surprise when I opened the door to the truck and heard a lot of birds singing in the park.  I didn't see a great variety of birds but I could hear many in the trees.   The highlight was seeing a very puffed-up Song Sparrow perched on top of a stump.  He was sitting in full sun and I imagine it was feeling pretty good after a long cold January night.

I focused on a couple new corners of the park.  Here is a list of what I saw and/or heard...

   Purple Finch
   Song Sparrow
   Fox Sparrow (I think)
   Pine Siskin
   Dark-eyed Junco
   Spotted Towhee
   Black-capped Chickadee
   Golden-crowned Kinglet
   Ruby-crowned Kinglet
   Belted Kingfisher
   Great Blue Heron
   American Crow
   Mallard
   Green-winged Teal
   Bufflehead
