Poulsbo's new Taprock Northwest Grill will finally open in just a
couple days. Nancy and I were invited to a pre-opening party last
Saturday and went over to look around and try out some of their menu
offerings. As with most new business's, there were some hits and misses. However, I don't think my opinion really has any meaning since I have never been a restaurateur nor a chef. Plus, we have to remember they will naturally have some growing pains. All in all, it was a pleasant evening. The food and drinks were good and the staff was very friendly. We looked over the menu for a while and did notice that the chef is making use of quite a few local and regional ingredients. That does give a nice Northwest flair to the dishes as well as making the kitchen a little more environmental friendly. By buying regionally they are reducing the carbon cost of transportation.
The standout item for me was the oyster po-boy sandwich. It was pretty tasty on its own but became even better when I splashed a bit of Cholula Hot Sauce on it. It was a nice mix of flavors and heat. We also tried their beer battered halibut and thought that was quite good.
So come into town and give Taprock a try. Plus, once you finish your meal, you can walk over to The Wild Bird and check out our great selection of quality bird feeders and seed.
