Just a few minutes ago I was walking the corgi around the building in order to check my mail. I turned a corner and stepped on the sidewalk when my brain registered a sound that I had not really noticed. Out of no where a thought popped up that said "huh, that sounded like a Red-tailed Hawk (RTHA)". Now, as far as I know I have never heard a Red-Tailed Hawk in person. However, it had been described to me as being a "movie bird". I've been told, and have since noticed, that the movies insert a generic RTHA cry for just about any bird of prey. Check it out for yourself. Next time you see an eagle in a movie listen carefully and you will most likely hear the call of an RTHA.
Anyway, I stepped out on the sidewalk and heard something that sounded like an RTHA. I glanced up and was surprised to see a hawk circling just a couple hundred feet over the top of us. It made its way slowly to the south flying over the main part of Poulsbo Village. I watched it for a couple of minutes until it flew in front of the sun and I had to look away.
